The Puffball Menace by vmulligan The Puffball Menace by vmulligan
For some reason, the title of an old John Wyndham short story came to mind when I was looking at this photo.

This was shot on the University of Toronto campus with a Canon Rebel T2i digital SLR and a Soligor 135 mm f/2.8 lens, open all the way. It was a 1/2,500th of a second exposure at ISO 100.

If you land on a verdant planet next to a small patch of these humble little puffballs, you don't worry.
If the next day they've grown over the landing gear of your ship, you get annoyed.
A day or so later, if they've covered half your craft and are growing fast, you become uneasy.
The next morning when you can't see out the windows or open the hatch, then you begin to worry... :)

usually I am not into flower shots, but for some reason this one appeals to me and I'm definitely going to save that later for inspiration

I know what you mean -- flowers are overdone. This summer has seen a lot of flowers in Toronto (and not a lot else to photograph), so I've been taking more shots of those. Glad you thought this one was okay, though. It's hard to do flowers in an interesting way :) .
