Scoutship 2 -- Draft 5 by vmulligan Scoutship 2 -- Draft 5 by vmulligan
Another test rendering of a model that I'm working on, done with Maya 2011 and mental ray. The main hull textures are finalized, now.

This image and this model are not in the public domain, and may not be used for any purpose without my permission. Image and model copyright 2011 Vikram K. Mulligan

Looks like a '30's-style space vessel or submarine. Charming and fun design. :)

Nice hull texture.

Are the Beatles in there somewhere? It reminds me of the 'Yellow Submarine'. ;)

Ha ha ha ha! You're the third person to point this out. I swear it was an unintentional resemblance! :D

Looks good. I would suggest to change the colour of the skin/pinkish details on your ship, where it's the plain colour. You could make it rusty, it would look quite good I think.

I was going for more of a ceramic look than a metallic one -- and in any case, metal doesn't corrode in the absence of oxygen. Still, you are right; it does need a dirt and scuff map; I'll do that next.

It was only a suggestion. Still you could add some colour shades to it so it wouldn't be only a plain colour.
Also fix the lighting a bit to show off the details below as well, because your modelling is good. ^^

Oh, yes -- the lighting is temporary, just so that I can see the model while modelling. The final scene will be lit quite different, I imagine.

It's coming along nicely! One thing though, the hull surface looks a little too detailed. Too many little over-over-lapping tiny panels. It's a bit much.

I might tone it down a bit; I'm still tweaking the bump map.

Nonsense, you can never make a model too detailed.......except if it's for a pc game.

Good to see your putting the disclaimers on the work. Superb additions, this version of the ship with the colour banding makes the meshed in details stand out really well. Superb work.

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I've started putting copyright notices on my pieces since I found a few being sold without my authorization on other websites. (Google's new image search tool is quite useful for finding out when that happens, actually).

I use a firefox plugin called TinEye that does a remarkable job of tracking images down everywhere, found some of mine on sale without authorisation too - in china.

Ah, yes -- I've used the TinEye websearch once or twice, though I haven't used it in quite a while. Thanks for the recommendation, though -- I didn't know that it was available as a Firefox plugin.
