Scoutship 2 -- Draft 3 by vmulligan Scoutship 2 -- Draft 3 by vmulligan
Another draft rendering of a spacecraft model that I'm working on, done with Maya 2011 and mental ray. The model was built in 3ds max 2011, with UV mapping in Roadkill and Maya, and textures done with Zbrush 4, Photoshop CS3, and Darktree Textures 2.51.

This image and this model are not in the public domain, and may not be used for any purpose without my permission. Image and model copyright 2011 Vikram K. Mulligan

looks sort of like a ship from a Terran Trade Authority book... the CAM 117 Gunship...

Yes, I think I did have that ship (featured in Spacecraft: 2000 to 2100 AD, by Stewart Cowley) in mind as inspiration when designing this. I'll definitely cite that as a source of inspiration when I do the final piece, but this isn't meant to be a direct imitation of that.

It's incredible how many people are still familiar with the old TTA books! :D

A little before mine, too. My copy was from my dad's sci-fi collection.

Been meaning to model a ship or two from mine for practice. And a strange thing, a couple illustrations were used as cover images for unrelated novels...

I think all of the images in the book were originally created as cover art for novels. Cowley compiled them and created a little story to tie them all together, as I understand it.

It was TTA-inspired, though it's not intended as a direct imitation.

Thanks!
