This photo was taken on Nov. 7th, 2008, in the Palais Garnier (the "Paris Opera House" of Phatom of the Opera fame). It's a hand-held 1/10 second exposure at ISO 1600 and f/5.6, taken with my trusty Canon Rebel XTi.
Oddly, this seems to be my most-stolen deviantART piece. To my knowledge, it has appeared without my permission on a fancy bookmark, the cover of a Japanese magazine, an advertisement for a Chinese health product, the background of a college student's fashion design project, and various blogs. No, this does not mean that you can use this image too. Yes, I do go after unauthorized use of my artwork. Ask me if you want to use it for something. I tend to be nice and say yes if and only if asked permission beforehand.
EDIT: I keep finding more instances of this being used without my permission! Now it's appeared in the advertising for a Canadian choral group and a Spanish ballet, as well as on a photo backdrop being sold on a Chinese photography equipment website. Unbelievable! Let me say it again: THIS IMAGE MAY NOT BE USED FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES. If I don't get to make money off of it, you don't get to make money off of it. I'm probably shutting the stable after the horse has run off, but I'm adding a watermark, now.
Yeah, he's retired now. Bought a flat in the 18th Arrondissement, I think. He still does kids' birthday parties from time to time, and sometimes visits the Palais Garnier, but he doesn't live there any more. (Kidding, kidding.)
Hello I just wanted to ask if I can copy this and maybe a few other of your works to use as my screen saver on my iPad. That is my only intended use I swear
Sure thing -- non-commercial use for personal amusement is totally fine. I just get irritated by those who rip off photographers' works and either pass them off as their own or use them to make money for themselves without paying the original artist.
Glad you liked the pics!
Most stolen photogragh, eh? Well... I suppose, in a way, it's a bit of a compliment.
I guess it is a bit of one -- though I still wish it didn't happen!
