Hmm... I'm not completely satisfied with this, but here's a possibly finished version of the "Black Holes" piece. I don't like the fact that it doesn't really draw the eye anywhere -- the composition isn't quite right, to my mind. Oh well. I'm still re-learning how to work in 2D after years of 3D work. With 3D, it's easier to change a composition radically in the middle of working on it...

This was painted in Photoshop CS5.1 with a Wacom Intuos4 tablet. Foreground ships were modelled in Wings 3D 1.4.1, textured with ZBrush 4R3, and rendered with Maya 2012 and 3Delight for Maya 6.0.

It almost seems to be moving... :omg:

Just like in Stephen Hawking's Universe documentaries, in the episode about the time travel.

Nice one Vik! Did you use a filter on those ships to give them a painterly look?

Thanks! No, no painterly filter on the 3D elements -- though I did play with contrast and colours to bring them in line with the 2D painted elements.

Thanks! I'm not totally happy with it, but I'm glad people seem to like it.
